"Today Dr Suzuki was watching and smiling. Here is what I received from Jenny Glester, who organised busking to support our fundraiser.

On a windy but sunny day, me, Emma Butterworth and many of my lovely students got together on the Harbourside in Bristol to busk. We were raising money for our friends and colleagues in Ukraine. We played our music to show our solidarity with the Ukrainian people and to stand against the tyrannical Putin.

A man who was busking to "raise money for his rent and a deposit" offered us his busking spot and his microphone. He was so bowled over by the childrens' playing and the cause, he donated all the money that he had already made busking that morning.
Many other parents, children and their friends and family who could not join us busking, donated generously. One child gave all his pocket money he had saved for many years...all £240!

At the end of the busking set, I noticed a lady crying. She had a Ukrainian ribbon on her lapel. As I talked to her, I found out that she and 3 of her friends there were representatives of the Ukrainian Society in cities in the north of England. They told me stories of their family and friends who were either fighting in, hiding in or fleeing from Ukraine. They told me that the childrens' music had given them hope for the future and they were overwhelmed by people's generosity. Thank you to all the children and parents who made this all possible and to all of the generous donations.

We all reach out to the people of Ukraine. They are not alone. "Perhaps it is music that will save the world." (Pablo Casals)"
